Ways we can help
Send food to a shiva house
For friends, neighbours, colleagues, a synagogue or a community group. Tell us the family's name, the address and the date, add a note with your names, and we deliver it with care.
Meal trains
Organising meals for the week? Share one link in your Facebook group, WhatsApp or email. Each person requests their own date, with their own note to the family.
Unveilings
After the unveiling, family and friends often gather. Our packages and platters suit a quiet gathering at home. We deliver across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), plus Aurora, Newmarket and Stouffville. Please order at least 12 hours ahead.
Planning the week of shiva
A little help each day
The house is often fullest in the first days and at the evening prayers. Some families, or the friends helping them, like to plan food across the week so no one has to think about it.
A few simple ways people use our menu:
- One package per day. A Small, Medium or Large package for each day visitors are expected.
- A package, then platters. A full package on the first day, then fruit, crudité or sandwich platters on later dates.
- Shared by a group. Different friends or families each send one date through a meal train.

The shiva house address, the date and time, the family's name and your note.
We confirm and deliver
We call or email to confirm the order and final total, then deliver everything ready to serve. Nothing to return.

Gentle answers
Can I send food if I don't know the family's plans?
Yes. We suggest checking the shiva hours with someone close to the family, so the food arrives when people are there. Add the family's name and your note, and we'll confirm the details with you before delivery.
How soon can you deliver?
Please order at least 12 hours ahead. Shiva often begins with little notice. If it's urgent, please call 416-816-1073
Is the food kosher style?
Yes. LJ Kitchens are Dairy & Vegetarian Caterers and our food is kosher style. It is not certified.
Does anyone need to return the platters?
No. All food is presented on disposable platters, included in the package price. No platter returns or pick-up required, so the family has nothing to manage.
